This heirloom Bourbon varietal coffee comes from one of the best growing regions in Congo where the temperatures remain stabilized by the large body of lake Kivu. High elevation, rich volcanic soil and diligent agricultural practices create the perfect environment for coffee to flourish.

Cooperative Maendeleo is a relatively new co-op that formed with the express, uplifting mission to promote the socio economic interests of its members and provide financial stability through coffee cultivation. Coffee has become the lifeblood of this community and their production has more than doubled in just four years.

Jim Ngokwey of Optimist Trading grew up in Congo and has dedicated himself to bringing these amazing coffees to the world. Jim and our Coffee Director, Jake Leonti have known each other for over six years: making this relationship coffee even more significant. It is also why we were able to secure 75% of this lot.
